Mets and Cubs are working on mega deal for Kris Bryant and Zach Davies

The New York Mets are working to acquire star Kris Bryant and pitcher Zach Davies from the Cubs at the trade deadline.

The New York Mets are swinging for the fences with a mega trade to address their two biggest concerns in one fell swoop.

New York is in talks with the Chicago Cubs about bringing in All-Star batter Kris Bryant and pitcher Zach Davies, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

With other playoff contenders making big moves at the trade deadline, it only makes sense for the Mets to go for a big move.

Bryant is a four-time All-Star who has spent all seven years of his MLB career with the Cubs. However, his contract is up at the end of this year, giving Chicago an incentive to get some value back for him.

Kris Bryant and Zach Davies could head to the Mets

This year, Bryant is batting .267/.358/.503 with 18 home runs and 51 RBI.

Bryant could fill half a dozen holes for New York. He’s played the majority of his career at third base but has a wealth of experience playing in the outfield as well. He’s even started 23 games at first base and filled in at shortstop for a game this season.

With Francisco Lindor out injured, the club could get creative with their lineups deploying Bryant in a number of spots.

Davies would also give the Mets some help on the mound as they deal with injuries to Jacob deGrom and Carlos Carrasco. He’s 6-7 this season with an ERA of 4.39.

Like Bryant, Davies’ contract ends at the end of this season.

Even if those two would be half-year rentals, the Cubs will want a serious return for the trade. The question is how many prospects the Mets are willing to give up to give their postseason hopes a serious boost.
