Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jean Segura was hit in the face by a pitch from Yennsy Diaz of the New York Mets during Saturday’s game.

The Philadelphia Phillies were in great spirits on Saturday morning, as they were in sole possession of first place after their win over the rival New York Mets on Friday. While the Phillies were in control for the majority of Saturday’s game, they did suffer an injury scare late in the contest.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, second baseman Jean Segura faced an 0-2 against Mets pitcher Yennsy Diaz. But the 90-mph changeup thrown by Diaz struck Segura right in the face.

Phillies: Jean Segura removed from game after getting hit by pitch

Segura was checked out by the training staff during the injury delay, but he opted to remain in the game to take his base. Once the eighth inning began, however, he was removed from the contest and replaced at second base by Luke Williams.

We will continue to keep you posted on Segura’s status once updates are provided.
