Paul Pogba isn’t ready to commit his long-term future to Manchester United, but the club are no longer chasing immediate replacements for the French ace.

Earlier this summer Manchester United officials were fervently searching for a midfield replacement for Paul Pogba. Now it’s clear that everyone at Old Trafford is prepared for the French talisman to spend at least one more season with the Premier League giants.

Higher-ups at United would love to see Pogba ink a long-term extension, but there are no indications that the player is ready to put pen to paper on a new contract. PSG still have an extreme interest in bringing Pogba back to his homeland, but their recent signing of Lionel Messi has made it impossible for the Parisian club to purchase Pogba this summer.

The clear indication that United are ready to let Pogba play out the last year of his deal lies in the club’s decision to stop chasing other midfielders in the market. According to The Daily MailUnited officials have stopped chasing three different potential Pogba replacements.

Who have United stopped chasing?

Arguably the most serious target United have given up on is Wolverhampton midfield ace Ruben Neves. The Portuguese star was thought to be interested in a move to Old Trafford after his old manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, was let go this summer. The Portuguese player isn’t nearly as dynamic as Pogba, but his excellent passing skills from deep in the midfield would have aided United’s possession game considerably.

Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez was a hot name with United supporters early in the transfer window, but he also appears to stay put with his La Liga club. Saul would have been more of a like-for-like replacement for Pogba given his combative nature in the middle of the park. He wouldn’t give United the same sort of attacking punch they get from Pogba, but his discipline in defense would have been a boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backline.

The club’s decision to abandon the chase for Eduardo Camavinga is the most surprising decision of the lot. The 18-year-old starlet is tipped to become a European superstar sooner, rather than later. He wouldn’t be an expensive purchase for United now, but his price could easily skyrocket if the club waits another season to make a bid on the prodigious young talent.

dark. Next. Manchester United finally make the right choice on talented attacker

Time will tell if United come to regret their decision to let Pogba enter the last year of his contract without a readymade replacement in the squad. It’s a big gamble for a club with big-time aspirations of making a charge towards the Premier League title this season.
