Chris Sale received a standing ovation after his triumphant return to the Boston Red Sox.

It had been a long two years without him, but the Fenway Park faithful gave their ace pitcher Chris Sale the standing ovation he deserved upon his return to the Boston Red Sox.

Sale had not pitched for the big-league club since the 2019 MLB season. While he first made a name for himself striking out seemingly everyone when he was with the Chicago White Sox, Sale helped guide the Red Sox to their latest World Series title three years ago in his first season with the team. Sale struck out eight batters in five innings of work in his 2021 debut for the Red Sox.

Here is Fenway Park showing Sale the respect he deserves after an incredible first outing back.

Boston Red Sox fans give Chris Sale a standing ovation in his first start back

Not only did the Red Sox fans show how much they loved having Sale back in the lineup, but his teammates made sure that he was going to get the victory as well. Sale exited the game with a commanding 7-2 lead over the flightless Baltimore Orioles. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Boston plated seven more runs to make this a complete laugher. 14 runs of support is plenty.

Though the Red Sox are five games back of the defending AL champion Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings, Boston should be good enough to earn one of two available AL Wild Card berths. If the season ended today, Boston would travel to the Bay Area to take on the Oakland Athletics in the win-or-go-home 2021 AL Wild Card game. These are the games it pays to have Sale pitch in.

While he gave up two big flies, it was great to see Sale make his triumphant return to the Red Sox.
