Awful news has arrived for Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, as he’ll miss his rookie campaign due to a sprained foot.

Unfortunately for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Travis Etienne’s season is over before it could even get underway. Over the weekend, the speedy running back was in action against the New Orleans Saints, but he suffered a foot injury in the middle of the contest.

It was announced soon after that he had suffered a mid-foot sprain and that he’d be out indefinitely. However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter is now reporting that the sprain is a Lisfranc tear and Etienne will be out for 2021. Simply brutal.

Travis Etienne being out for the season is a big blow for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Back in the spring, the Jaguars used their No. 25 overall pick on Etienne. This of course came after Jacksonville and Urban Meyer selected fellow former Clemson standout Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick.

Etienne, who finished his career with the Tigers as Clemson’s all-time leading rusher, was expected to line up at both running back and receiver for the Jaguars. Now, fans will have to wait until 2022 to see him play in a regular season battle.

With his explosiveness, Etienne figured to play a massive role for the offense throughout the season. While Lawrence hasn’t been named the starter just yet, both Clemson and Jacksonville fans were ready to see what these two could get done in their first pro year together.

At running back, Jacksonville fortunately has James Robinson back and he’s coming off a strong 2020 campaign in which he posted 1,414 total yards. With that said, Etienne is the kind of player that could take the pigskin to the house on any given down. This injury news sure does sting for Meyer and Co.
