Danyelle Wolf wins professional MMA debut on DWCS in controversial decision.

Despite having no MMA bouts to her name and making her professional MMA debut on Dana White’s Contender Series, national female boxing champion Danyelle Wolf pulled out the win in a close, disputed decision against Taneisha Tennant.

This fight marked the first women’s featherweight bout in the four-season history of DWCS. It also marks Tennant’s first loss.

Despite her skills in jiu-jitsu, Tennant elected to stand and trade with Wolf in the first round, and that resulted in her getting wobbled a couple of times with combinations.

Tennant did get to clinching Wolf late in that round, and by the second, it was her who was delivering the stunning blows.

The third round saw Tennant poked in the eye early, but she elected to continue on. Tennant did slightly more work in the striking department and control Wolf with her grappling for most of the round. A near finish via guillotine from Wolf, however, may have won her the final round on all three judges’ scorecards, as she won 29-28 across the board.

Wolf had been competing in amateur boxing for 10 years prior to tonight, putting up a 29-14 record and winning three USA Boxing National titles at welterweight, as well as becoming a Golden Gloves champion. She was a hopeful for both the 2016 and the currently-delayed 2020 Olympics.

Tennant made her professional MMA debut a little over a year ago, finishing Despina Karavas in Ring of Combat. She then quickly moved into Invicta FC, where she debuted with a unanimous decision win over Serena DeJesus. Earlier this year, she defeated Brittney Victoria, Hope Chase and Taylor Guardado in one night to win Invicta’s Phoenix Series 3 tournament.
