Manchester United officially working on Cristiano Ronaldo deal before he heads to Man City

Manchester United is officially in talks to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, with talks involving the board as the club races to beat its rival Man City to the punch. 

The stakes are always high when the Manchester Derby gets underway, but the highest stakes in the rivalry are happening behind closed doors and away from the pitch.

Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing to return to the Premier League after over a decade of dominating European football in Spain. The two clubs at the top o the list for bidding are rivals Manchester United and Manchester City.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United is trying to get a deal done with the superstar to both bolster its power and spite its rival.

“Manchester United have been in direct contact with Jorge Mendes since yesterday night for Cristiano Ronaldo comeback,” Romano reported on Friday. “Now board talking about figures of the deal, potential salary and also fee for Juventus. Man United are now ‘seriously interested’, as Man City too.”

To call a Ronaldo homecoming with United a welcomed sight for sore eyes at Old Trafford would be the understatement of the century. Landing perhaps the greatest footballer on the planet this side of Lionel Messi would be an obvious boost to any club, but a world-renowned brand like United reuniting with the star is the type of move that reasserts its dominance as a global force.

At age 36, some may question what Ronaldo United is getting. His prime years were spent with Real Madrid, but he outclassed almost all of the competition he faced in Serie A with Juventues. Now he heads back to an England that is very different from when he left back in 2009, but he returns as one of the best footballers in the known universe.
