A group of Dodgers fans backed up a female Giants beat reporter who was ‘accosted’ by man after game

When a female beat reporter for the San Francisco Giants was accosted by a drunk man, a group of Los Angeles Dodgers fans came to her aid.

Sports fans have gotten a bit of a bad rap this year considering the regular fights in the stands and highly-covered incidents involving players.

It’s good to be reminded that the vast majority of fans who attend sporting events aren’t the bad eggs. And each one is one good deed away from proving it.

On Saturday, Giants beat reporter Susan Slusser detailed an encounter with an awesome group of Dodgers fans who did exactly what needs to be done to give their fanbase a good name.

Dodgers fans defended a Giants beat reporter from harrassment

“Pretty big fan of Dodgers fans right now. Very drunk and big man accosted me walking to the parking lot, very threatening, and a group of LA fans surrounded me and walked me to my car and kept him away. Thanks to all of you. That was freaking scary,” Slusser tweeted. “[Giants president] Larry Baer just called to tell me he’s taking this matter seriously and is looking into better safety measures for all postgame. He doesn’t want a repeat of this for anyone.”

The Dodgers played the Giants at Oracle Park, so those were traveling fans who went out of their way to help a woman in need.

It’s great to see humans looking out for each other, regardless of the colors on their jerseys. It would be even better to hear about more of these kinds of events at stadiums. It’s time for the good fans to step up and make a difference.
