Gary Sanchez showed catchers everywhere how not to apply a tag when he gifted the New York Mets a run in the Subway Series.

Sanchez had plenty of time to apply a tag on Jonathan Villar in the early innings, but instead whiffed entirely and blocked the plate. While El Gary isn’t the best defensive catcher out there, you expect better from a player at the major league level.

Uh, what the hell was that?

Yankees fans were unhappy, and they had every right to feel that way.

Both Yankees and Mets need this series

The Yankees are just a half-game above the Toronto Blue Jays for the second Wild Card spot. Meanwhile, the Mets are five games back of the second Wild Card spot in the National League. It seems unlikely they’ll qualify for the postseason.

The Yankees have lost eight of ten, and four straight at the hands of the Blue Jays in a series they never led.

The Mets, meanwhile, have been brutal offensively all season despite monster expectations after trading for Francisco Lindor.

Only in New York can a series of such incredible expectations between two middling, debatable playoff teams take place.
