The Chicago Bears fell to the Los Angeles Rams, and fans in the Windy City are rightfully angry with Matt Nagy for some curious decision-making.

Nagy was already on the hot seat entering the season, along with general manager Ryan Pace. In fact, their jobs could hinge on the decision to trade up for rookie quarterback Justin Fields out of Ohio State.

So, it’s odd that they’re clinging to veteran starter Andy Dalton to start the season. The losses do count, and you can bet Bears ownership is watching all this play out very closely.

A Week 1 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams isn’t a good start, despite their incredible pass-rush. Chicago was expected to fall at SoFi Stadium, but some flashes from Dalton and Co. would’ve, at the very least, given Nagy and the Bears something to fall back on.

Instead, Nagy was left looking foolish for several tough decisions made throughout the game.

3. Fourth down blunders

Going for it on fourth down can prove to be a viable strategy when the first-down marker is in reach. This is football coaching 101. Yet, Nagy routinely made the wrong play-calls and put Dalton at risk, showing little faith in his defense at the same time.

The Bears are a team built around their defense, at least at this point in time. Even if Fields had been inserted into the game, playing conservative on the road actually makes far more sense than giving the Rams a short field on several occasions.

Nagy put his defense at a disadvantage, making an already-tough task of stopping Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford borderline impossible.
