Watch: Jets wasted no time in getting Zach Wilson killed in Week 1 (Video)

The New York Jets wasted absolutely no time in getting Zach Wilson crushed in his first NFL start.

Different year, new-look team, same old J-E-T-S garbage.

It might be the start of a new NFL season but the New York Jets are getting a head start on disappointing everyone who is brave enough to root for that team.

Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and the guy the Jets hope will finally be their franchise quarterback, got an immediate and rude awakening in Week 1. If there was any question about what he stepped into when he was handed a Jets jersey on draft night, Sunday afternoon closed every loop.

It took the Jets less than half a quarter to offer up their quarterback of the future to the football gods.

Zach Wilson got destroyed in his first NFL start thanks to the Jets bad O-Line

The slim upshot here is that this wasn’t Wilson’s fault. Usually, we see rookies make mistakes — the rookie mistake — which reminds us that these guys are just learning how to be pros and aren’t their fully formed NFL-selves yet.

However, watching Wilson get bulldozed into another dimension is more troubling. The utter lack of protection in front of him is apparent from the jump, and that’s not what you want a rookie quarterback standing behind in his formative years.

Sam Darnold had an incurable disease known as Adam Gase Syndrome working against him, which put the Jets in a position to re-attempt their quest for a franchise quarterback. But while you can take Gase and Darnold away from the Jets, you can’t take the systemic issues that caused them to be a collective failure out of the Jets.
