Referees somehow, some way decided that this play on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was not a safety.

The second slate of games for Week 2 provided for some entertaining games, which were unfortunately marred by bad calls. For example, Dallas Cowboys rookie linebacker Micah Parson was given a sack on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on a crucial fourth quarter drive, even though it was not a sack. Flash forward to the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans game, the referees almost screwed over the AFC South team in overtime.

On third-and-10 with eight minutes remaining in overtime, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was chased backwards into the end zone by Titans linebacker Ola Adeniyi, who then threw the ball away to the sidelines. That appeared to be a walk-off safety for the Titans, but the on-field officials instead ruled Wilson down on the half yard-line in a baffling decision.

Titans almost screwed over by non-safety call

How on earth did the referees decide that Wilson made forward progress towards the half yard line despite being in the end zone before throwing away the ball?

Luckily for the Titans, this decision did not prove to be costly for them. Starting on Seattle’s 39-yard line, Tennessee ran the ball four consecutive times with Derrick Henry, allowing Randy Bullock to hit the 36-yard field goal to give them the 33-30 victory.

Speaking of Henry, he singlehandedly sent the Titans into overtime after rushing for three touchdowns in the second half. On the day, Henry accumulated 182 yards on 35 carries.

The Titans averted the disaster that was this bad call and walked away with their first win of the season.
