Preview and prediction for Bellator 267: Douglas Lima vs. Michael Venom Page 2.
Bellator resumes their 2021 season of events with an unbelievable card at Bellator 267, featuring a highly-anticipated welterweight rematch between former champion Douglas Lima and top contender Michael Page.
Lima is looking to get back in the thick of things in the welterweight title picture after losing his belt to Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 260. He struggled with Amosov’s wrestling style en route to a unanimous decision loss, his first welterweight defeat since early 2018.
Page enters Bellator 267 seeking revenge against Lima, who he lost to by a vicious knockout at Bellator 221. Lima would go on to earn the title over Rory MacDonald and finally reach the pinnacle of the division.
Page has been on quite the run ever since, winning five straight bouts including a 30-second knockout over Derek Anderson at Bellator 258 earlier this year. His trademark striking continues to give his opponents all kinds of issues, using his range to attack at all areas.
The newly-crowned Bellator welterweight champion, Amosov currently doesn’t have a fight booked. The winner of Lima vs. Page 2 could get the next title shot.
Who will win at Bellator 267: Douglas Lima or Michael Venom Page?
Both Page and Lima have striking that can end a fight at any moment, with Page using his range and length while Lima uses his speed to get in the pocket.
The first fight between Lima and Page tells a lot about how this second bout could go. In the opening round, Page had his way on the feet and landed a couple of big punches that appeared to stun Lima early. Lima was able to catch Page with a hard calf kick that dropped him, and followed it up with a big right hand as Page was grounded to knock him out.
What’s concerning about Lima’s last fight was his relative reluctance to attempt to push the pace and control the center of the cage. He had a lot of issues reacting to Amosov’s timing on the feet as well, although most of the fight took place in the grappling aspect.
When Page has performed his best, it’s been when he’s been able to ‘lead the dance’ and use his karate style effectively. Although he’s mainly known for his striking, Page has sneaky good jiu-jitsu and can work well off of his back.
Lima will more than likely look to get the early takedown on Page to avoid a striking war. If he’s not able to take him down, it could be a long night at the office for Lima. Page is aware of the low-calf kick, a move in which has in a way revolutionized the sport and will look to capitalize on openings on the feet.
Lima will have his way early, but Page will rally late and find his timing with his striking to earn the victory in front of the hometown crowd.
Prediction: Page by decision
