In the NFL, for every winner, there’s a loser. End up among the latter too often as a head coach your seat will naturally start to feel hot.

After Week 4 action included head-scratching losses for more than a few teams, it might be time for a handful of coaches to start worrying about their job security.

Mike Zimmer

The Minnesota Vikings need to start asking what their aspirations are. Mike Zimmer might offer a certain level of consistency, but he doesn’t have a handle on taking the next step.

Coming off a 7-9 season in 2020, Zimmer was publicly frustrated with his quarterback and team at large over the COVID-19 vaccine debate. The distractions weren’t a great way to start the season, but a 1-3 start dwarfs those issues.

An embarrassing loss to the Bengals opened the season. A loss to Arizona followed. Minnesota bounced back against the Seahawks before suffering their first home loss of the campaign against the Browns.

Losing to a good Browns team isn’t the biggest problem. Scoring just seven points at home while being utterly overrun on the offensive line is.

Zimmer has gone to the playoffs every other season with the Vikings. He can still rally to produce results down the line but the performance against the Browns goes to show what hypothetical playoff matchups might end up looking like anyways.

Minnesota isn’t anywhere closer to contending now than they were when Zimmer took over.
