St. Louis Cardinals veteran Adam Wainwright will return to the team next season and he’ll earn more than $17 million.

In some exciting news for the St. Louis Cardinals, the team doesn’t need to have Adam Wainwright’s future be a distraction for them this postseason. That’s because the hard-throwing righty isn’t going anywhere.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Wainwright had agreed to a new one-year deal with the club. That’s right, Wainwright will be back once the 2022 campaign gets underway. Now, we know exactly how much he’ll be earning too.

St. Louis Cardinals fans are jacked up that Adam Wainwright is returning in ’22

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Cardinals are giving Wainwright $17.5 million to take the bump for them next season. Bringing Wainwright back was truly a no-brainer, as he’s been nothing short of superb this year.

In the regular season, Wainwright went 17-7 and recorded a 3.05 ERA. Come Wednesday night, Wainwright will look to live up to his new deal, as he has quite the task in front of him. Manager Mike Shildt is putting his trust in Wainwright for the Wild Card Game, giving him the start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This is expected to be a fantastic showdown, as it will follow Tuesday night’s battle between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. While silencing the reigning World Series champs won’t be an easy task, you already know that Wainwright will be jacked up to try and get the job done.

Cards fans have full belief that he’ll be able to record a strong performance. Will it be enough to get St. Louis to the NLDS? We’ll find out come Wednesday night. Regardless of that result, though, the St. Louis faithful will be ready to see what Wainwright can get done next year as well.
