The Pittsburgh Steelers need to draft Malik Willis out of Liberty to replace Ben Roethlisberger.

It may not be a strong quarterback class, but the Pittsburgh Steelers could have their heir apparent to Ben Roethlisberger if they draft Malik Willis out of Liberty this spring.

While it is only Week 5 in the NFL, Roethlisberger is aging like milk before our very eyes. The Steelers’ three division rivals all have former Heisman Trophy winners under center and 3-1 records to boot. Pittsburgh is two games back of all of them at 1-3. Steelers fans may rave about this defense, but this has to be the last year Roethlisberger is the starting quarterback for them.

The good news is Willis might be the best draft-eligible signal-caller this cycle, and he can do this to the opposition, albeit against Middle Tennessee.

Malik Willis should replace Ben Roethlisberger as the Steelers’ next quarterback

Who cares if Willis is carving up Group of Five competition? Roethlisberger played in the MAC back in the day, so that does not matter. What does matter is the Steelers getting a quarterback who is battle-tested, mentally tough and one who can make plays with his arms and his legs. Willis has all the intangibles the Steelers should be looking for in Roethlisberger’s long-term successor.

It might be a weak quarterback draft class, but Willis could be the guy worth trading up for.
