The Kansas City Chiefs have “looked into” acquiring running back Marlon Mack.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly “looked into” trading for running back Marlon Mack.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Mack in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. His best season came in 2019, as Mack rushed for 1091 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games.

With Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines on the roster, Mack has played a reduced role on offense. This season, Mack has played in only 17% of the Colts’ offensive snaps. In four games, he has 85 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Mack requested a trade in late September. In an interview with Mike Chappell of Fox 59, Mack referred to the situation as a “mutual agreement”.

"Just had an agreement with what’s best for me. They were just all with it. They supported me 100 percent. It’s a mutual agreement I would say."

Chiefs’ running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered an MCL sprain in Sunday’s night loss to the Buffalo Bills. He is expected to miss the next few weeks.

Mack would give the Chiefs a solid option at running back, while Edwards-Helaire is recovering.

Right now, Darrel Williams and Jerrick McKinnon are the top two running backs on the Chiefs’ depth chart. Williams has recorded 453 rushing yards and 3.8 yards per carry across his four seasons in Kansas City.

McKinnon has only one rushing attempt, so far, this season, but he should see a larger role in the passing game in Edwards Helaire’s absence. McKinnon has 178 receptions for 1,264 receiving yards in his career.
