Kayla Harrison mauls Taylor Guardado, earns an armbar finish to secure the 2021 PFL lightweight title.
In what was possibly the final fight in the PFL, Kayla Harrison earned yet another dominant victory over Taylor Guardado to secure the 2021 lightweight title.
Guardado landed some good shots in the opening minutes, but Harrison quickly moved the fight to the ground and controlled position. She landed a barrage of nasty ground-and-pound combinations that forced Guardado to survive to Round 2.
In the second round, Harrison and Guardado traded some hard shots on the feet. But midway through, Harrison secured another big takedown against the cage with relative ease.
This would be the beginning of the end of the fight. Harrison kept top mount and smashed Guardado with hard punches, eventually transitioning to side control and locking in the armbar submission for the win.
How did Kayla Harrison and Taylor Guardado get to the PFL Finals?
Harrison entered the 2021 season undefeated in her MMA career and continued her dominant streak with wins over Mariana Morais and Cindy Dandois to clinch a spot in the playoffs. It didn’t take long for her to overwhelm Genah Fabian en route to another first-round finish in the semifinals.
Guardado emerged as the surprise of the division this year after wins over Lauren Sanchez and Helena Kolesnyk. She capped it off with a split decision win over Morais to clinch a spot in the championship against Harrison. Guardado joined the league after taking a fight in Invicta FC in her professional debut.
Whether or not that was the last time that Harrison will compete in the PFL cage remains to be seen. But, if that’s the case, she ended her tenure in the league just as dominant as she entered it.
