WWE rumors: The Rock pours cold water on WrestleMania 38 match
By Byron Smith
Looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for The Rock and Roman Reigns to meet in the squared circle
Wrestling fans have been sharing and following rumors for almost a year about a potential return of The Rock to WWE. Those rumors began in early 2020 but were slowed down quite a bit because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the vaccine has brought the pandemic to its closing act, those rumors have begun circulating again.
However, it appears that The Rock is attempting to put an end to those rumors.
In an interview with Andrew Freund, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked about the rumors about him potentially wrestling Reigns at Wrestlemania 38. Johnson’s response was likely not what wrestling fans wanted to hear.
“I can tell you that there is no truth to [rumors] right now. Possibly down the road, we will see.”
The Rock has not wrestled a sanctioned WWE match since Wrestlemania 29
Despite being one of WWE’s most iconic wrestlers of all time, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appears to have mostly put his wrestling days behind him, focusing instead on his career in Hollywood.
According to Forbes, Johnson earned about $87.5 million last fiscal year, making him the highest-earning male actor in Hollywood for the second year in a row. Johnson has also been cast in several iconic roles in the last few years, including the role of Luke Hobbs in The Fast and Furious franchise, a role he is expected to reprise this summer for the filming of “Fast 10”
Does this completely eliminate the possibility of a Wrestlemania 38 match? No, nor does it completely eliminate the potential of one more WWE match. However, it does seem to significantly decrease the chances of that happening.
