2 Steelers stars appear on injury report, status for Week 10 in doubt
By John Buhler
Running back Najee Harris and wide receiver Chase Claypool are among the players listed on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ injury report after Thursday’s practice.
Though the Pittsburgh Steelers will be an overwhelming favorite vs. the Detroit Lions on Sunday, they could be without rookie running back Najee Harris and sensational sophomore wide receiver Chase Claypool in the inter-conference NFL contest.
During Thursday’s practice, Harris was limited with a foot injury, while Claypool was held out entirely with a toe injury. This was the first practice of the week for Pittsburgh, as the Steelers played the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football to close out Week 9. Naturally, these two stars’ statuses after Friday’s practice will go a long way towards them possibly playing on Sunday.
What are the chances the Steelers have Claypool and Harris readily available to play in Week 10?
Chase Claypool, Najee Harris injury updates: Week 10 statuses remain in doubt
When it comes to Claypool, the injury he sustained on Monday night vs. Chicago is more severe. He is listed as week-to-week and could potentially miss his second game of the season. Claypool did not play in the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers. As for Harris, he is infinitely more likely to play over Claypool, but this is all contingent on how Friday’s practice goes for him.
Given that the Steelers are a massive favorite to beat the winless Lions at home, there is no reason to rush either of their star offensive players back during a short week. Pittsburgh has the depth in the receiving corps to survive without Claypool going vs. the Lions. However, the Steelers probably need Harris’ rushing prowess to help close out the game with a late fourth-quarter lead.
Though the Steelers could be short-handed heading into Week 10 offensively, Pittsburgh is more than capable of beating the lowly Lions without Claypool, and possibly Harris, if need be.
