The LSU football program is making “an aggressive push” to rip Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame.

As if Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC wasn’t enough, buckle up for these Brian Kelly potentially leaving Notre Dame for LSU rumors.

Bruce Feldman, Brody Miller and Pete Sampson of The Athletic report LSU is targeting the Notre Dame head coach to replace Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge. Kelly has had tremendous success at Notre Dame, including two College Football Playoff berths and a BCS National Championship appearance in 2012. However, he has yet to win a national title since taking over in South Bend.

With Feldman breaking the Riley to USC bombshell, silly season is about to get even sillier.

Brian Kelly to LSU rumors: Would Notre Dame head coach leave for LSU job?

Though Kelly is supposedly happy at Notre Dame, he does wish the athletic department would upgrade some of its facilities. While he has one of the very best jobs in the country, Riley going to USC seems to have put a fast-track on aggressive LSU athletic director Scott Woodward to go out and get his guy. He has made splash hire after splash hire, stemming from his time at Texas A&M.

While getting Riley, Lane Kiffin or Jimbo Fisher to LSU would be massive news, to think Woodward could potentially get a deal done to rip Kelly away from South Bend is borderline unheard of. Then again, Kelly might embrace a change. He is well respected in the coaching world. Though he has the Notre Dame program where he wants it, he would have an easier time winning it all at LSU.

In an update from college football insider Pete Thamel, it appears a deal is close to done. An announcement could come soon.

Kelly to LSU would change the entire dynamic of the SEC, as the Tigers would be back in no time.
