The New York Mets and Steve Cohen went above and beyond to make sure they’d land star pitcher Max Scherzer.

Folks all over Queens are still jacked up knowing that one of the best hurlers is on his way to Citi Field. After Noah Syndergaard bolted town to sign with the Los Angeles Angels, the club has replaced him in the rotation with stud pitcher Max Scherzer.

This offseason, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has made it more than clear that he’s ready to spend big to try and attract the best talent. Well, this was most definitely the case with Scherzer, as MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has provided more details on his three-year deal.

Max Scherzer signing with the Mets includes some head-turning incentives

Not only is Scherzer taking home $130 million over three seasons, but the club is also hooking him up with four premium seats for each contest in Flushing. Not bad. Oh and on top of that, the incentives for Scherzer are pretty wild. The list includes $200,000 if he wins MVP, $200,000 for NL Cy Young, $150,000 for World Series MVP and more.

If you ask Mets fans, they’d love nothing more than for Scherzer to capture his World Series MVP bonus. New York had high hopes of pushing for the glory this past season and things were looking good at the start of the campaign.

However, everything then flipped and the Mets didn’t even make the postseason. It was a major disappointment, as fans had high hopes for the team. Looking forward, though, Cohen is ready to put the past in the past and focus on getting this club back to an elite level.

The Mets have made quite the statement in signing Scherzer to his deal. Now, people will hope that he can live up to things.
