Antonio Doyle may want to stay down in Texas after his Texas A&M stint

Simply put, Texas has to get better defensively if the Longhorns want any hope of being competitive before they enter SEC play, or at the very least, in their final years in the Big 12. One way they can do that is aggressively attack the transfer portal for former four-stars like linebacker Antonio Doyle. He hit the portal after spending two football seasons with the Texas A&M Aggies.

The big school to keep an eye on potentially landing Doyle in the transfer portal is Missouri. Doyle is a St. Louis native and could be interested in returning home. Even more so, Tigers head coach Eliah Drinkwitz is crushing it in recruitment during his second season in Columbia. Doyle could potentially return home to The Show Me State, but he did most recently play football in Texas.

Why not try to steal a receiving target from a rival for Quinn Ewers to throw to?

While there is a decent chance wide receiver Theo Wease exits the transfer portal to stick with the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas needs to be aggressive to see if it can’t poach a coveted player from its arch rival. Wease could potentially leave Norman and play in the Dallas-Fort Worth area near his hometown of Allen, Texas. However, TCU and SMU are not on Texas’ level from a prestige point.

Even if he relocates to the other sidelines for Red River, Wease would benefit from not only having a five-star in Ewers rifling him the pigskin, but he could be the missing piece in Sarkisian’s prolific passing game really taking flight in Austin. Again, it takes a brave soul to transfer from Oklahoma to Texas. However, Wease could end up benefiting from playing on a Texas team that is on the rise.

The Longhorns not guaranteed to get any more blue-chippers in the portal, but they have to try.
