Some disappointing news has come in for soccer fans, as the Liverpool vs. Leeds United showdown for Boxing Day has been pushed back due to COVID.

Few days across the English Premier League are better than Boxing Day. Folks love waking up the morning after Christmas with a full slate of exciting matchups on the docket. Well, one big-time meeting is off the books.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the Liverpool vs. Leeds United showdown has officially been called off due to COVID concerns. This is obviously a major disappointment for the fans of both clubs.

Liverpool vs. Leeds United off due to COVID concerns

With rising cases for Leeds United, they actually reached out to the English Premier League to try and get this one pushed back. The EPL went ahead and postponed the match, as Leeds indeed are in the middle of an outbreak.

The Liverpool-Leeds match isn’t the only one that has been moved back this week, as Wolves and Watford also won’t be taking the pitch on Boxing Day due to COVID problems. There were some cancellations expected, but it’s still sad to see for everyone out there.

For Liverpool, the club is in the middle of another fantastic season, as the Merseyside club is in the hunt to win both the Champions League and English Premier League. As things stand, Liverpool is in second place of the league table with 41 points, three behind leaders Manchester City.

While Chelsea is also in the mix, this figures to be a tight battle all season long between City and Liverpool. Meanwhile in the Champions League, Liverpool is all set to take on Inter Milan in the round of 16. The first leg of that matchup is set for February 16.
