Cincinnati wants its fans to wear black on Friday, as they prepare for their own Cotton Bowl funeral at the expense of the Alabama football team.

Wearing black vs. the Alabama football team is a bold choice, but clearly the Cincinnati Bearcats aren’t afraid of the inevitable.

In the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday afternoon, No. 4 Cincinnati will take on No. 1 Alabama in their national semifinal game. The winner of this College Football Playoff game will take on the winner of the Orange Bowl between No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Georgia on Jan. 10 up in Indianapolis. Maybe Cincinnati should have learned from Georgia’s gaffe from 2008 about wearing black?

Former Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran famously referred to the much-anticipated “Blackout Game” at Georgia as Dawg Nation dressing up for their own funeral. Alabama destroyed Georgia and became a national power after that signature game on the young college season. 13 years later, Cochran is the special teams coordinator for Kirby Smart at Georgia.

Cincinnati knows its fate, will wear black to get ready for its Cotton Bowl funeral

Though the Bearcats are the last undefeated team in college football, it would be nothing short of miraculous if they stun Alabama at Jerryworld on New Year’s Eve. While they played Georgia tough a year ago in the Peach Bowl, that was against a Dawgs team that had so many key players opt out for the 2021 NFL Draft. Not only is this the College Football Playoff, but this is Alabama.

While the Crimson Tide are favored to repeat as national champions, it’s not like Georgia, Michigan or even Cincinnati are college football cannon fodder. Whoever wins this year’s national title will have earned it, unless the College Football Playoff believes forfeitures are the way to go. Though Cincinnati will not forfeit to Alabama, wearing black is an ominous sign of a team’s season’s death.

At every occasion, the Cincinnati Bearcats will be ready for the funeral at the hands of Alabama.
