Michigan football: Wolverines get positive update on Dax Hill
By Mark Powell
Michigan defensive back Dax Hill is expected to play, despite his questionable status as of New Year’s Eve morning. Hill made an appearance at the team hotel last night.
Hill did not travel with the team to the Orange Bowl and wasn’t with the team as recently as Thursday morning. However, Hill will reportedly suit up, despite being marked as questionable by Harbaugh himself.
Hill is now with the team, which is the latest update provided by Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic.
“His status is going to be questionable,” Harbaugh said Thursday on a Zoom call with Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. “He’s working through something right now. We’ll know more today whether he’ll be able to play. He could be here today. He may not. But not currently in Florida, no.”
Harbaugh didn’t wanted to show Georgia is cards, despite the information available to them via social media. Hill is a first-team All-Big Ten performer at nickel cornerback.
Michigan football: Why was Dax Hill missing?
Michigan has yet to let on why Hill was absent in the first place. His brother, Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill, was recently placed on the COVID-19 list by his team. It’s unknown if Dax contracted the virus as well.
When Michigan’s players were asked about Hill, they merely referred the question to their head coach.
“You know, it’s not our job to comment on other players, so we’ll let Coach Harbaugh answer that question,” quarterback Cade McNamara said on Wednesday.
Rod Moore would be the likely replacement for Hill in the defensive backfield should he not be able to play. Thankfully, it looks like Michigan should have one of their defensive playmakers available for the 7:30 p.m. ET Orange Bowl tilt against the Bulldogs.
