Projected college basketball rankings after Duke, Kansas upset, Baylor survives
The Top 25 college basketball rankings always had the chance to get shaken up hugely on a loaded Saturday. Duke and Kansas getting upset made sure of that.
With more than 100 games on the Saturday slate — a welcomed sight with all the recent cancelations throughout the sport — college hoops fans were ready for a jampacked day of action. Even better, we had high potential for chaos and for the college basketball rankings to get shaken up. That, indeed, was what transpired.
Virtually at every timeslot throughout Saturday, we saw ranked college basketball teams get taken down. But none were bigger than the Kansas Jayhawks losing in the middle of the day to No. 25-ranked Texas Tech and then No. 2-ranked Duke falling at home in front of the Cameron Crazies to unranked Miami.
And we even almost saw No. 1 Baylor go down. The Bears trailed at the half by six points against TCU but fought back in the second half and eventually pulled away for a 12-point victory that is not indicative of the sweat that was had.
With these big results, though, we have to check out the projected college basketball rankings after Saturday’s big upsets.
Projected college basketball rankings after Duke, Kansas upset, Baylor outlasts TCU
- Baylor Bears
- Purdue Boilermakers
- Gonzaga Bulldogs
- UCLA Bruins
- USC Trojans
- Duke Blue Devils
- Arizona Wildcats
- Auburn Tigers
- Kansas Jayhawks
- Michigan State Spartans
It’s hard to see Duke dropping too far and certainly not out of the top 10, especially because there’s a strong argument to be made that the Hurricanes should be a Top 25 team in their own right with a really strong showing now punctuated by a signature win.
As for the Jayhawks, there’s no need to penalize Kansas all that much either. Bill Self’s team lost to a Top 25 squad and they were far from embarrassed. Yes, it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward, but not something that can be used to drop them super far in the college basketball rankings by any stretch.
