Standout Eagles pass-rusher Josh Sweat has been ruled out for the Wild Card Round game after dealing with a medical emergency.

A truly horrifying update has just been released ahead of the highly-anticipated showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. For this one, the Eagles will try and have to record the upset without stud defensive lineman Josh Sweat.

Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, Sweat has been ruled out after he was dealing with what turned out to be a life-threatening situation earlier this week. Sweat had an emergency procedure on Tuesday, per Schefter, and still tried to get himself cleared in time to suit up against Tampa Bay.

Josh Sweat medical emergency has him missing the Eagles-Bucs game

Fortunately for Sweat, he was able to avoid any further injury here and he even traveled with the team to Tampa Bay. He was working around the clock to be able to play vs. the Bucs, but at the end of the day it was decided that he’d need to be rested. This makes sense, as it sounds like this truly was a serious and frightening situation.

Sweat has been fantastic for Philly this year, as he’s appeared in 16 games and started 13 of them. He has posted 45 tackles and 7.5 tacks this campaign. While head coach Nick Sirianni was hoping that Sweat would be able to put plenty of pressure on Tom Brady in this one, that won’t be going down.

Now, Sweat will watch this showdown from the sidelines and hope that his teammates will be able to record a stunning win over the Bucs without him. Should the Eagles move on, the hope is that Sweat would be good to go for the Divisional Round.
