New York Giants Mock Draft – Second Round

Edge. USC. Drake Jackson. player. 31. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 36

The Giants used a second-round pick on an edge rusher last season by taking advantage of the fact that Georgia’s Azeez Ojulari slid down draft boards. The pick worked out well for the Giants as Ojulari flashed as a rookie, recording eight sacks and 49 tackles as a key rotational piece on the defense.

Schoen would be wise to follow that formula if he has a chance to tab Drake Jackson, who has shown some pass-rushing chops at USC. Jackson racked up five sacks for the Trojans last season and has the type of speed-rushing moves that can give bigger offensive tackles problems.

There are elements of Jackson’s game that need to be refined, particularly in terms of technique, but his talent alone makes him worthy of this selection. Coming to a situation where there is less pressure to do well immediately in the Giants would also benefit Jackson, who can focus on development in his rookie season.

There is also a chance that Jackson doesn’t make it to this pick if he flashes good numbers at his Pro Day, which can help justify an earlier selection since everyone needs help rushing the passer. Schoen would undoubtedly have a card flying to the podium if Jackson is available at 36 for New York.
