Paul Finebaum goes off on Michigan for signing Jim Harbaugh to a five-year contract extension and thinks it’s going to end poorly for the Wolverines.

Paul Finebaum likes Jim Harbaugh about as much as an Ohio State fan.

The ESPN/SEC Network commentator went off on the Michigan football coach on Thursday’s edition of Get Up and thinks it’s preposterous the university gave Harbaugh a new five-year extension.

On Wednesday, Harbaugh signed a five-year extension on the heels of leading Michigan to the Big Ten championship and its first berth in the College Football Playoff. It also comes two weeks after Harbaugh interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings on National Signing Day.

Reports circulated that Harbaugh was going to leave Michigan if the Vikings offered him the job. The offer never came so Harbaugh said he is returning and is done flirting with the NFL.

Paul Finebaum destroys Michigan for giving Jim Harbaugh a new deal

All of this leads Finebaum to think Harbaugh really doesn’t want to be there and it’s an arranged marriage that’s doomed.

It’s fair to say Harbaugh may not truly want to be at Michigan because he did interview for a job with an NFL team on National Signing Day. If the Vikings offered him the job, he would be the head coach of the Vikings today and Michigan would have a new head coach, possibly former offensive coordinator Josh Gattis who left for the same job at Miami after Harbaugh returned.

But it’s not a preposterous deal for Michigan to re-sign Harbaugh to a five-year extension after guiding the team to the playoff. This is the way things work in college football. Harbaugh gets over $7 million per year over the life of his five-year deal, which is about what he received before he took a pay cut last year. Extending Harbaugh is fair for both sides and it’ll provide some security and help his recruiting efforts with the belief he’ll be there for the foreseeable future.

Jim Harbaugh and Paul Finebaum have never seen eye-to-eye

Outside of Ohio State and Michigan State fans, there may be no bigger critic of Harbaugh than Finebaum and people have taken notice.

The replies to the tweet of Finebaum’s criticism were loaded with people wondering what Harbaugh did to him to warrant such disdain.
