After the controversial split decision in favor of Josh Taylor over jack Catterall, the word ’embarrassing’ started trending on Twitter.

Undisputed super lightweight boxing champion Josh Taylor was supposed to embarrass challenger Jack Catterall in front of his home country of Scotland on Saturday, Feb. 26. Taylor won the fight, but social media is calling the bout’s outcome an embarrassment.

Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) was an overwhelming favorite against mandatory challenger Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs), but Catterall dropped Taylor in round 8 and won nearly every significant statistical count. According to CompuBox, Catterall out-landed Taylor 120 to 73 and also threw 219 more punches.

Still, Taylor was the benefactor of a narrow split-decision victory. The OVO Hydro Arena didn’t have a problem with the scores, but Twitter certainly did. One judge had the fight for Catterall at 113-112, but the others had it 114-111 and 113-112 for Taylor.

Both Taylor and Catterall were ridiculously deducted points, but the knockdown, along with the CompuBox stats, make a case for why Catterall deserved to be the new undisputed super lightweight champion.
