Kirk Cousins has made it quite clear to the Minnesota Vikings that he won’t be signing any kind of a discount deal with the team.

Kirk Cousins is entering the final year of his current contract with the Minnesota Vikings, but the team has no plans of letting him walk into free agency next offseason. With that, though, the pressure is on for Minnesota to finalize an extension.

They do not want him to enter the final year of his deal with his future unknown. However, Cousins knows his value and there’s no chance he’ll be taking a discount before putting the pen to paper.

Minnesota Vikings need to figure things out with Kirk Cousins

Cousins is coming off another strong year for Minnesota, as he tossed for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Despite those stats, the Vikings went 8-9 on the year and missed out on the playoffs. The team was forced to watch Green Bay win the NFC North again, though the Packers did choke in the playoffs.

For Cousins, he’s still only 33 years old and has plenty left in the tank. He’s ready to sign a multi-year extension, and it feels like the ball is in the court of the Minnesota front office. With new head coach Kevin O’Connell on board too, it would make sense for Cousins to stick around for a while.

Cousins pushed for O’Connell to land the job, as he served as his quarterbacks coach when Cousins was still in Washington. Fans are ready to see what O’Connell and Cousins can do together. Big things are expected for the 2022, but then we’ll have to wait and see what happens after that. The Vikings must prioritize the Cousins extension before Week 1.
