With the Indianapolis Colts trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders, the front office shouldn’t hesitate in trying to sign Jameis Winston later this month.

The nightmare for Indianapolis Colts fans has come to an end, as Carson Wentz will no longer be the team’s starting quarterback. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that Wentz has been traded to Washington.

With Wentz on his way out of town, who could take over as starting signal-caller for this team? A name that certainly jumps out leading up to free agency getting underway is Jameis Winston.

Jameis Winston signing with the Colts makes a ton of sense

Winston is coming off a torn ACL, but the expectation is that he should be ready to roll for the start of the regular season. Winston spent the past two years with the Saints, winning the starting job for 2021 before going down with his injury.

The Saints are hoping to bring Winston back on a new deal, but NFL Network’s Jane Slater is reporting that New Orleans is also eyeing other signal-callers, with the list including Mitchell Trubisky.

Winston figures to receive plenty of interest in free agency, but a move to Indianapolis would make plenty of sense. Winston would be able to arrive to the Colts and take over as the new starter. Before tearing his ACL, he helped New Orleans to a 5-2 record, while throwing for 14 touchdowns.

He was able to remind people that he can be a capable starter in this league. Winston will be ready to prove his doubters wrong again in 2022, but it’s up in the air which city he’ll be doing that in. Keep an eye on Indianapolis moving forward.
