Even though he’s one of the most accomplished college basketball coaches coaching today, some Kentucky basketball fans aren’t thrilled with John Calipari.

Objectively speaking, John Calipari is a very good coach. Arguably one of the best in college basketball today. He’s accomplished much throughout his career and, even if it’s been a few years since he’s won a national championship, he’s a national championship winning coach.

He’s a winner. He’s won over 78 percent of his games while leading the Kentucky Wildcats. He’s very, very good at what he does. That doesn’t mean some Kentucky basketball fans are all that thrilled with Calipari right now.

Following a loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament down in Tampa, Florida, some extremely rational Kentucky fans got online, hit up their favorite message boards, and shared some very fair and thoroughly thought out statements.

Kentucky basketball fans are incensed at John Calipari after Wildcats loss to Tennessee Volunteers

Now, there are some very fair criticisms to be made about Calipari. It has been a few years since the Wildcats have been able to win the SEC (in either the regular season or the SEC Tournament). It’s been even longer since Kentucky was competing for a national championship.

With the talent Calipari has, Kentucky should probably be winning big games a little more frequently than it is. That said, the SEC is better now than it has been in an incredibly long time. The Volunteers have a very solid program and losing to them isn’t an indictment on the quality of team that Calipari has right now.

But it certainly seems like some fans have very quickly forgotten all that Calipari has been able to accomplish in Lexington.
