The Kansas City Chiefs added a speedy receiver to their squad on Thursday, signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year deal.

He’s not Tyreek Hill, but he’s an upgrade from Demarcus Robinson.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, that was enough to sign former Green Bay Packers receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year deal worth $36 million in total. However, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic and confirmed by FanSided, the contract is essentially two years and $18 million with addition incentives and non-guaranteed money making up the difference.

Valdes-Scantling, 27, played his first four seasons with the Packers after being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his time with Aaron Rodgers and Co., the deep threat racked up 123 receptions for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Now, joining the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling’s main job will be earning yards after the catch and stretching the field with his elite speed. Without Tyreek Hill, who Kansas City traded to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks on Wednesday morning, Valdes-Scantling becomes the big deep threat for Patrick Mahomes.

After the signing was announced, there was ample reaction from the masses on Twitter.

For Kansas City, the move was obvious. The Chiefs need to fill out their receiver room, and in that vein, more will be coming. The Chiefs currently have JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Josh Gordon and Valdes-Scantling. Expect another receiver or two between free agency and the draft.
