Bobby Witt Jr. picked up his first career hit for a game-winning RBI against the Cleveland Guardians. The Royals won the game, 3-1.

Opening Day couldn’t have gone any better for Kansas City Royals fans.

First, the return of Zack Greinke was a roaring success. The former and current Royal threw just under six innings of one-run ball, keeping the Guardians at bay long enough to finally get to Shane Bieber, and then Cleveland’s bullpen.

Witt Jr.’s RBI double came off of Tristan McKenzie in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The 21-year-old is ranked top-10 across the board on baseball’s top prospects lists. He’s the son of a former MLB pitcher, and ready to make his mark as one of the best young players in all of baseball.

Opening Day: Bobby Witt Jr. makes his mark

Witt Jr. gave a peak behind the curtain before Opening Day, revealing how the Royals initially told him he’d be getting the start at third base.

“All the guys were congratulating me,” Witt told reporters, according to ESPN. “I can’t really put words to the feeling how it was. My stomach sank. Tears came to my eyes. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

He won’t have to. If Witt Jr. has his way, he’ll stay in the majors for the rest of his playing days.

He’s off to a fast start.
