2. Andre Pallante, P

The Cardinals’ fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft made his major league debut on Sunday. He pitched one inning and gave up two hits, one walk, and one earned run.

This was a rocky outing that could be a real downer for a pitcher the Cardinals have a lot of hope in having a successful future. The Cardinals will want to get him back to the minor leagues to work things out. The organization will want to see him get stretched out and confident. And, from there they can see if they want to proceed with his future.

1. Edmundo Sosa, SS

Sosa became a regular in 2021 after Paul DeJong struggled with injuries. He hit and was smooth in fielding his position. DeJong has gotten off to a good start with the Cardinals. He looks much better fielding and is already hitting .200/.333/.500 with an OPS of .833 with two hits, one home run, and two RBI.

In the event DeJong, Tommy Edman, or Nolan Arenado need a break, Sosa would be the prime candidate to spell them. Cardinals’ new manager Oliver Marmol has said he will be keen on using match-ups during the season so Sosa may be needed during the long stretch of the season. Sosa should get some time in the minor leagues just to get reacclimated to fielding and hitting regularly.
