Yordan Alvarez returned to the Houston Astros on Apr. 18 and decided to punish baseballs thrown by the Los Angeles Angels.

The Houston Astros opened up Minute Maid Park on April 18 after a nine-game road trip to start the season. The team may have transferred Lance McCullers Jr. to the 60-day injured list, but they were able to activate designated hitter Yordan Alvarez off the COVID-19 injured list.

In his very first game back on the team’s 40-man roster, Alvarez hit not one, but two home runs to lead the Astros to an 8-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

In the bottom of the first inning, Alvarez stepped up to the plate with Michael Brantley on first base. Houston’s slugger then sent a 83.6 mph slider from Angels pitcher Michael Lorenzen and sent it into the second deck of the right field stands to give the Astros an early 2-0 lead.

Alvarez’s second homer of the night arrived in the bottom of the seventh, with Houston leading 5-3. With Alex Bregman on base, the 2019 AL Rookie of the Year sent Archie Bradley’s seventh-pitch of the at-bat into right-center field stands to extend Houston’s lead to 7-3.

With this game in the books, Alvarez is up to three homers on the year. His very first home run of the season arrived on Apr. 7 against, you guessed it, the Angels.
