Gervonta Davis is a solid betting favorite over Rolando Romero ahead of their May 28 lightweight Showtime pay-per-view boxing bout.

To no one’s surprise, WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is the odds on favorite heading into his Saturday, May 28, Showtime pay-per-view boxing bout against challenger Rolando Romero.

Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) has a flawless record and owns a 92 percent KO rating. The southpaw from Baltimore, MD, is known for his impressive combination of speed and power.

During his nine-year professional boxing career, the 26-year-old Davis fought from featherweight to super lightweight. However, lightweight seems to be where he is most comfortable.

Davis had a more challenging time than expected against Isaac Cruz in his last outing. He defeated Cruz via unanimous decision, but some felt Cruz deserved the victory.

Davis’s less than stellar performance against Cruz did nothing to diminish his odds against Romero. According to Wynnbet.com, Davis is at -900 odds to Romero’s +550. That makes Romero over a 5-1 underdog.

Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) is also undefeated, but his boxing skills are rudimentary compared to Davis. Like Davis, Romero is also a big puncher with an 85 percent KO rating. He stopped former Olympian Anthony Yigit in his last bout in July 2021.

Romero is the same age as Davis, but he’s 3 inches taller and is the larger fighter. He insists that his size will be the difference in this fight.

Davis hasn’t had a problem with larger fighters. He stopped super lightweight Mario Barrios in round 11 in 2021.

Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center hosts Davis vs. Romero. This will be Davis’s third time fighting at Barclays Center and Romero’s first. The venue is much closer to Davis’s hometown of Baltimore than Romero’s of Las Vegas. Davis should have the crowd on his side.

Romero has a good chin, but it has never been tested against a boxer of Davis’s caliber. Speed kills, as the saying goes, and Davis has all the speed in this matchup.

Look for Davis to utilize his superior hand speed against Romero. It should be target practice for Romero, and a knockout victory could be in his favor.

Romero is a good fighter, but his skills aren’t on Davis’s level. A bet on Davis to win via KO should offer a decent payout regardless of the betting brokerage you use.

Coverage of Davis vs. Romero begins on Showtime pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET.
