Chaim Bloom can help the Boston Red Sox immensely by acquiring any of these three Chicago Cubs trade chips.

The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs will forever be linked as the two big market ball clubs with lengthy curses blamed for their lack of winning a championship. This year, the only thing they might have in common is the employment of some players.

Both clubs started off slowly only for the Red Sox to come roaring back into the playoff race while the Cubs were left at a gas station a few miles back in April. The Red Sox are expected to be trade deadline buyers. In Chicago, the Cubs will continue to sell.

Chaim Bloom has a chance to add to his team’s roster with a trade for any of these three Cubs players.

3. Red Sox trade target on the Cubs: Ian Happ

Ian Happ might be this year’s Ben Zobrist, Adam Frazier, etc. He isn’t quite as versatile of a fielder as them but a history of playing all over the diamond and outfielder makes him an intriguing target for many teams to consider.

The switch-hitting 27-year-old is having another good year in 2022 which sets up nicely to make him a hot trade target. The Red Sox, with some clear needs for an upgrade in the outfield offensively, could even decide to use him regularly at another position.

First base has been a black hole for the Red Sox this season. Happ, who mostly plays left field these days, could give them an alternative option over Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero.

Happ has another year of arbitration after this season. The urgency to trade him just isn’t there yet. However, if the right deal does come around, he’s someone who should be on the move. Will it be Bloom blowing Chicago away with the best offer?
