Houston Astros MVP candidate Yordan Alvarez made a statement at Yankee Stadium, hitting a short porch home run to take the lead.

Alvarez, Jose Ramirez and Aaron Judge are among the early leaders for American League MVP for a reason. With the Astros visiting the Bronx this weekend, Alvarez has a chance to make a national statement of sorts.

Houston and New York combined for three 3-run home runs as of this writing, with Houston getting the best of the Yanks in that stat, 2-1. Alvarez hit a line drive bomb of his own that just made it over the short porch.

Now, to be fair, this would’ve been a home run in 13 out of 30 ballparks. That’s slightly less than half.

Astros: Yordan Alvarez makes statement vs Yankees

Houston and New York are both in the top-5 of our latest MLB Power Rankings for a reason. — they have the top-2 records in the American League. Both will make the playoffs (most likely) and could be on a collision course for the ALCS.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time they met in the postseason. Outside of Boston, Houston is arguably the most-hated team in the Bronx. The sign-stealing scandal of 2017 stole (no pun intended) a World Series away from the Yanks that season.

Thankfully for them, they have a few more to fall back on.
