PFL 5 will see Renan Ferreira return to the cage.
The 2022 season is seeing several guys make some headway not just in the brand but with their legacies as well. One of those names who is quickly become a must-see talent is Renen Ferreira. he’s 7-1-1 in his last nine, with six of his wins coming by way of KO/TKO or submission and he’s the fighter to watch at PFL 5.
He should be 8-1 with a win over that span yet his fight with Fabricio Werdum was overturned. He originally won by TKO over Werdum but that was overturned when the New Jersey Athletic Commission claimed two open-palm strikes were ruled as a tap. Was it? It’s hard to say, Werdum didn’t let go when the “tap” occurred, and Ferreira continued to pummel Werdum until the fight was waved off.
There’s an argument to be made on both sides, but if we just look at his performances, regardless of the win/loss of it all, you can see just how good Ferreira has been over the course of his PFL tenure and beyond. That alone is a reason to want to watch him, but then there’s the looming fight that fans will want to keep an eye on.
With each win, Renan Ferreira is making a case to have an epic showdown with Bruno Cappelozza
The PFL may have a heavyweight showdown for the ages coming to their cage this year, as Ferreira and Bruno Cappelozza are on a collision course to meet in the PFL playoffs, though it’s fair to say that those running the promotion hope the two meet in the finals instead.
Both men have huge striking power and love to stand and bang. Cappelozza is quickly ascending the list of the best heavyweights in the world and his lone loss since 2016 has been to Jiri Prochazka.
Ferreira has not truly tasted defeat since 2016 either, with his lone loss being by disqualification.
With each win both men in closer to the biggest PFL fight at heavyweight ever. They just have to both keep winning to turn that dream match into a reality.
