According to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Brooklyn Nets are prepared to move on from both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant this offseason.

There is a lot of attention being focused on the Brooklyn Nets this offseason, and for good reason. Kyrie Irving and the Nets are nowhere near close to agreeing on a new deal, and things are leaning towards the guard exiting and joining a new team this offseason. That then opens up the door for Kevin Durant to potentially leave, as reports indicate that he is considering his options for the future.

According to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Nets are putting it out there that they would rather lose Irving and Durant “than go through what they went through last season.”

Nets would rather lose Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant this offseason

This past season, the Nets had Irving active for 29 games. That was mostly due to the fact that he was not vaccinated against COVID-19, which violated the New York City mandate, and was unable to play the majority of home games in Brooklyn. Durant missed time due to an MCL injury. The team clinched the seventh-seed in the Eastern Conference, but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics.

Irving has a reported list of sign-and-trade destinations. ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Los Angeles Lakers were the only team planning in making such a deal, but the Nets have no interest in taking any of the packages offered.

Wojnarowski also notes that Irving’s uncertain future could leave them open to a trade request made by Durant “that has yet to materialize.”

Irving has until this Wednesday to make a decision regarding his $36.9 million player option for the upcoming season. We should get a clearer picture on what will happen with the Nets this offseason.

UPDATE: According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Irving is exercising his $36.5 million player option for next season and will remain with the Nets.
