Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan will be the cover athlete on NBA 2K23.

It is only fitting that Michael Jordan will appear on the cover of NBA 2K23.

Though other athletes have worn the No. 23, nobody did it more triumphantly and more unapologetically than The GOAT of the NBA. Jordan famously went 6-for-6 in NBA Finals, helping the Chicago Bulls hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy six times. They were never much of anything as a franchise before him and have been chasing what Jordan meant to them in the decades to follow.

You can pre-order the Michael Jordan Edition and Champion Edition of NBA 2K23 on July 7.

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan will be the cover athlete on NBA 2K23

We are rapidly the 25th NBA season since Jordan’s Last Dance with the Bulls. It was Chicago’s second three-peat throughout the Bulls’ dynastic run with Jordan at the center of it. Chicago defeated Karl Malone, John Stockton and the rest of the Utah Jazz for the second NBA Finals in a row to win Championship No. 6. Jordan would retire for a second time after this championship run.

Though Jordan would unretire for a second time a few years later to play for the lowly Washington Wizards, his basketball legacy had been cemented. While other players have tried to overtake him in the pantheon of the sport in the last 25 years, there can only be one GOAT. Maybe one day there will be a professional basketball player who will eclipse what Jordan did in Chicago? Until that day…

While people over the age of 30 know all and well what Jordan meant to the sport of basketball, a younger generation grew up either idolizing Kobe Bryant or LeBron James. Bryant did win five championships when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers. James is now on his third team, hoping to add another ring or two before he completely falls out of his prime. He is forever chasing Jordan.

It made way too much sense for NBA 2K to make Jordan their featured athlete for NBA 2K23.
