Orlando City SC host the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, July 27 in an all-MLS East semifinal of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Exploria Stadium.

Neither Orlando City nor the Red Bulls have ever won the U.S. Open Cup.

The winner will play the victor of the Sporting Kansas City-Sacramento Republic FC game in the championship game.

The U.S. Open Cup, founded in 1914, is a tournament open to all U.S. Soccer Federation affiliated teams, including amateur adult club teams. In the tournament’s 105-year history, 63 different clubs have lifted the trophy.

The final will be played in September. The date has yet to be finalized.

Both Orlando and the Red Bulls are having a very good season. Both remain in the hunt for a pot in the MLS Cup Playoffs that will take place in the fall. In the U.S. Open Cup, the Red Bulls were able to eliminate their rivals, and defending MLS Chp champions New York City FC, in the quarterfinals. Orlando, meanwhile, got the better of Nashville SC to reach the semifinals.

The teams are evenly stacked heading into the semifinals. Orlando SC has a slight edge for being at home, but the Red Bulls have found a way to win on the road this season. For that reason, look for New York to come out ahead.

The Red Bulls defeated Orlando City SC 3-0 in their last meeting on April 24 at Exploria Stadium in an MLS regular season game.
