Albert Pujols defeated Kyle Schwarber in a swing-off at the Home Run Derby, so of course baseball fans thought it was fixed.

Sports aren’t fixed. How many times do I have to tell you?

The Home Run Derby went to a swing-off between Schwarber and Pujols in the first round. Despite a valiant effort, Schwarber fell to Albert, who hit seven home runs in that tiebreaker.

The former Cubs and current Phillies slugger Schwarber has plenty of experience with Pujols in the National League. On Monday night, he was hitting home runs like it’s 2008.

Albert Pujols beats Kyle Schwarber: Fans think Home Run Derby is fixed

No, the Home Run Derby is not fixed. Doing so in such a large-scale competition would be tough to accomplish, anyway. There are no refs in the Derby.

Still, that didn’t stop baseball fans from expecting the worst of the players they root for on a daily basis. As much as MLB might like to see Pujols make the finals in what will be his last year playing professional baseball, they don’t have that kind of control.

As creative as MLB is sometimes, there’s no way Rob Manfred could think of such a scheme on the fly. Sorry.
