Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Frankie Montas shined in his return from injury. Here are five teams that should acquire him by the MLB trade deadline.
Prior to the 2022 season, the Oakland Athletics solidified their status as sellers based off of their moves. They traded first baseman Matt Olson to the Atlanta Braves, Sean Manea to the San Diego Padres, and Matt Chapman to the Toronto Blue Jays. One player with trade value they kept was starting pitcher Frankie Montas.
The right-handed pitcher was long expected to be dealt by the trade deadline, but he was sidelined recently due to shoulder inflammation. But on July 21, Montas made his return.
Facing off against the Detroit Tigers, Montas pitched three scoreless innings. He struck out five batters and allowed just two hits. Not to mention that his pitching speed topped out at 98.4-mph.
Following this, one has to imagine that Montas’ trade stock is active and rising once again. With that, here are five teams that should try to acquire him.

5. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees had the best record in the entire American League entering the break and looked like an unstoppable force. But then, their return from Los Angeles happened.
They faced off against their hated rivals in the Houston Astros in a doubleheader on July 21. The Yankees were no-hit by the team earlier this year, and they could not pull out a victory in either of the two games this day. They are now 2-5 against Houston this year, showcasing that they need to do something to get them over the hump.
New York’s bright spot this season has not just been Aaron Judge, but also the performance of their whole starting rotation. Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cores, Jameson Taillon, and Jordan Montgomery all have ERAs below 4.00. But, they did recently lose Luis Severino to a right lat strain.
The Yankees have the prospects to make some moves at the deadline if they want to make a push to the World Series this season, which is arguably their best shot at doing so. Adding to their starting rotation should be something that general manager Brian Cashman considers. That is, of course, if he is willing to part ways with some of his young players in the farm system.
