Disappointment is the only winner after Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry no contest

Bellator 284 featured a heavyweight bout between Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry that would have had title implications.

Ryan Bader sits atop the heavyweight division as champion but he has no clear challenger. Two of the names that sought to get a shot at Bader were Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry. The two heavyweights were set to have a throwdown on Friday at Bellator 284 but an errant eye poke ended everything.

The fight had barely started and was still in the early moments of round one when Moldavsky went to strike Mowry but ended up poking Mowry in the eye. Mowry took as much time as he could, but after some time Mowry admitted he couldn’t see properly and so the doctor waved off the fight.

Bellator should run the fight back and pick a different contender

Having Ryan Bader take on either Mowry or Moldavsky isn’t the play. Right now, the best call is to let them have a rematch, while Bader defends his title against Fedor Emelianenko. It may be Emelianenko’s last fight, and to give him one last shot on the way out, preferably on the same card that Mowry and Moldavsky have their rematch is the way to go.
