The headlining fight for UFC 283 might just be the wildest “how it happened” story. Originally former champion Glover Teixeira was set to rematch the reigning champion Jiří Procházka, but then Procházka got injured and vacated his title. In his place, Magomed Ankalaev stepped in but Teixeira didn’t want to risk his potentially last shot at the LHW title on a short-notice opponent, so another former champion, Jan Błachowicz stepped in. They fought in December but the close fight was declared a split decision draw and the title remained vacant. Many assumed they’d just run it back but after Ankalaev went on a rant bashing the UFC in his post-fight interview, Dana White swiftly re-booked a title fight but this time booked Teixeira and rising star Jamahal Hill.

So yeah, here’s where we are just days away from (hopefully) crowning a new light heavyweight king.

Also on the card is a fourth (yes, fourth) fight between Deiveson Figueiredo (c) and Brandon Moreno (ic) to unify the flyweight title and hopefully put their back-and-forth to bed … for good.
