UFC Fight Island 5: Marlon Moraes vs. Cory Sandhagen fight card
A pivotal matchup within the UFC‘s bantamweight division in which two top contenders, Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen, battle to keep their positioning in the main event of UFC Fight Island 5 on Oct. 10.
Moraes comes in as the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s divisional rankings. He battled Henry Cejudo for the then-vacant UFC bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 238 but was finished in the third round.
Moraes then battled Jose Aldo at UFC 245, coming away with the win in a controversial decision. Despite his win, UFC President Dana White felt Aldo had won the fight and awarded him with a future title shot, while Moraes has sat on the sidelines since.
Sandhagen, meanwhile, saw a winning streak snapped at UFC 250, where he was submitted by Aljamain Sterling in 88 seconds. It was Sandhagen’s second pro loss and his first time finished. Prior to this loss, he had been unbeaten in the Octagon, including decision wins over John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao in 2019.
